OSHA Rate Increases

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) announced increases to civil penalties for violations based on cost-of-living adjustments for 2024. The increases took effect January 16, 2024.

The maximum penalty for both serious and other-than-serious violations will be $16,131 per violation, up from $15,625. Meanwhile the maximum penalty for willful or repeated violations will grow from $156,259 to $161,323 per violation.

OSHA’s increases are in accordance with the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act Improvements Act of 2015, which requires government agencies to adjust their civil penalties for inflation annually in order to maintain their deterrent effect.
