It’s a new year, and the Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has begun accepting electronic submissions of last year’s injury and illness data from Forms 300A, 300 and 301. Employers who are required to submit data from these forms can do so by logging onto OSHA’s Injury Tracking Application (ITA). The deadline for submitting 2024 data is March 2, 2025.
Many employers are required to annually submit data from Form 300A: Summary of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses. These include:
The number of employees refers to the peak number over the course of 2024. For instance, if you had 250 employees at your peak last year, that’s the number that applies, even if you only have 200 employees now.
In addition to the above requirement, certain employers must also submit data from Form 300: Log of Work-Related Injuries and Illnesses and Form 301: Injury and Illness Incident Report. This applies to employers with 100 or more employees in certain designated industries.
Note that employers who do not have to submit Form 300A data will not have to submit Form 300 and 301 data.
While federal OSHA covers employers in the majority of states, employers in some states are covered by state plans. For private-sector employers, the Form 300A, 300 and 301 data submission requirements for most state plans are identical to the federal requirements. But certain state plans, such as Minnesota, require additional private-sector employers to submit 300A, 300 and 301 data. In addition, unlike under the federal plan, state and local government employers covered by certain state plans may have to submit their data.
If you are unsure about whether you are required to submit Form 300A, 300 and 301 data, find out by keying in your state, peak headcount, industry and whether you are in the public or private sector on the ITA Coverage Application page.
